New Life Correction Center (1951-1965)

New Life Correction Center (1951-1965)
Exhibition Area Brief Guide
The New Life Correction Center was organized into three brigades, each comprising four squadrons. The quarters of the Third Brigade (squadrons 9 through 12) have been recently rebuilt, and now serve as exhibition center to show the living conditions of the New Lifers at the time.    The museum’s use of the structure to reconstruct history using eyewitness reports and official documents is a long, ongoing project. The Third Brigade cell block, completed in 2008, and the opening of the exhibition centered on the New Life Correction Center, are the partial concrete fruits of the planning of the Green Island Human Rights Memorial Park and researching of historical materials beginning in 2001.

The instruction area is a simulation. Provisions have been made so that visitors may leave a message, and may take with them information cards about related museums at home and abroad, in order that they may seek further information upon returning home. The higher authorities supervising the running of the New Life Correction Center permitted photographs of collective instruction, teaching materials, and group instruction, as they served their propaganda purposes.
